WHY OUTBACK PIONEERS?
Outback Pioneers is owned and operated by the Kinnons, a local family of graziers. They immerse guests in an authentic experience of outback pioneering life, past and present. With multiple tourism awards, Outback Pioneers combines insights, entertainment and fun for a unique and heart-warming time in the Longreach region. The signature experiences are shown below. 3-day and 6-day holiday itineraries that combine experiences with accommodation, meals and transfers are also available.
STARLIGHT'S CRUISE EXPERIENCE 4-hours | Mon – Sat | April – October
Guests board a historic paddle-wheeler for Longreach’s original sunset cruise on the Thomson River. This is the place to capture iconic outback sunset photos! There’s a stockman’s camp-fire dinner, entertainment and bush poetry followed by the Starlight’s Spectacular, Sound & Light Picture Show. Finally, guests embrace the outback night looking up at the star-filled sky with billy-tea and damper in hand. BYO drinks.
COBB AND CO STAGECOACH EXPERIENCE 4-hours | Mon – Fri | April – October
The stagecoach travels through Longreach town and then onto the original mail route to Windorah along bush tracks. There’s a gallop ‘to outrun the storm’ – the only place in Australia where you can experience this! Back in the Kinnon and Co yard, the hilarious OLD TIME TENT SHOW is part of the experience – it’s a tribute to the old travelling shows with slapstick, mayhem and animal antics. A traditional ‘smoko’ and a classic bush movie are included.
HARRY REDFORD OLD TIME TENT SHOW 1-hour | Mon – Fri | April – October
A tribute to the old travelling shows with slapstick, mayhem and animal antics.
NOGO STATION EXPERIENCE 4-hours | Tue, Fri | April – October
This working station was once part of Bowen Downs and is now the home of Abigail Mickan-Kinnon. Guests travel deep into station life with fascinating insights from their Kinnon-family host. They see Captain Starlight’s legendary stockyards, discover the Merino story in the historic shearing sheds and go on station safari by open-top, double-decker, overlander bus. On the sunlit plains they can spot native, domestic and feral animals that call the outback home. A saddlebag lunch under the gum trees is included.
