Puffing Billy Railway
Add Puffing Billy Railway to your excursion itineraries!
Puffing Billy Railway is Australia's favourite steam train and one of the finest preserved steam railways in the world. This century-old steam train continues to run on its original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook in the magnificent Dandenong Ranges located 40kms east of Melbourne.
Puffing Billy was built to serve at the turn of the century and is a genuine relic of our more leisurely days. The Railway is the major survivor of four experimental Narrow Gauge lines used to develop rural areas in the early 1900s.
Puffing Billy is now a major tourist attraction, and operates every day except Christmas Day, thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 900 dedicated volunteers.
The daily Excursion Trains takes you on a journey through fern gullies, over trestle bridges and through the temperate rainforest of the Dandenong Ranges - a wonderful place for that unforgettable photo! Passengers can even hang their legs over the side of the carriage - if they dare.
Wine & Dine on Puffing Billy
In addition to the daily Excursion Trains, Puffing Billy offers first class dining on the 'Steam & Cuisine Luncheon'. Enjoy the scenic vista of the Dandenong Ranges whilst dining in fully enclosed heritage carriages. This three hour journey operates daily at 12.30pm. Passengers can savour our three course menu or alternatively share the Natter Platter, a range of beverages are available for purchase, including locally produced wine.
The evening 'Dine & Dance at Puffing BIlly' operates on selected Friday and Saturday evenings and offers a train journey, dinner at the Nobelius Packing Shed and entertainment.
