Macarthur RegionThis morning we take a walking tour of Campbelltown’s main street, viewing historic properties and hearing tales of the settlement’s past, including the infamous legend of Fisher’s Ghost. Next is a visit to the Mukti Gupteshwar Hindu Temple. Built on a two hectare site, the Mukti Gupteshwar Mandr is believed to be the only man-made Hindu cave Mandir in the world. The cave Mandir includes a main shrine and six smaller shrines. The main shrine houses one of the 13 Hindu icons, the only icon located outside India. The site is beautifully landscaped with more than 5000 native plants and s sandstone lined dam featuring a beautiful shrine in its centre. From here we head to Menangle House for a tour and lunch. Menangle House was built in 1834 by George Taber, known as the ‘gentleman farmer’. The building is now operated as a public bar, known as the ‘Horse and Jockey Inn’. Menangle House is now comprised of the historical old inn, the new and modern HnJ Tavern, Tabers Al a Carte Restaurant and the Slab Hut Can and Bottle Bar. There are six magical courtyards and three feature fountains sprawled over four acres of luscious lawns for you to enjoy. Enjoy lunch as well as a guided tour of the old homestead. This afternoon enjoy a visit to Ruane Cellar Door. Ruane’s 80 acre property boasts 4 acres of vineyards, with 2800 vines. Planted in 2002, the vineyard produces a number of varieties of wine that are available for tasting and purchase, including Pinot Gris, Sangiovese and Chardonnay. Producing more than 5000 bottles of wine every year, the property also has delightful award winning gardens for you to enjoy. After a great day we return to our motel to freshen up before dinner. |
