Day 6 |
Uluru National ParkFor the very early risers, the coach will make an early departure to the Sunrise Viewing Area to experience the first glimpse of the day. For the adventurous, the coach will then make a stop at the base of the Rock for the Ayers Rock Climb. For those not wanting such an energetic morning, there will be breakfast at the Resort. The coach will then transfer us back to the rock for the Ranger-Guided Mala Walk. Learn about Aboriginal perceptions of Ulurru, its powerful spiritual significance and how Anangu Traditional Owners and Ranges are looking after the Park together. There are many fine examples of Anangu art to see along the way. You may like some statistics! Ayers Rock is located in the World Heritage Listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It rises 348 metres from the desert floor and has a girth of 9.4km. It's the world's most famous monolith with at least two thirds of the Rock lying beneath the surface. We spend some time at the Cultural Centre and take a drive around the Rock, stopping for photo opportunities. Lunch today is available from the hotel or one of a number of restaurants and cafes in the Yulara Shopping Village. This afternoon we visit the nearby Olgas, called by the Aboriginal people, 'Katajuta' or place of many domes. There are excellent views from an observation deck and time for a short walk before returning to Yulara. At sunset the coach will visit "sunset strip" for those wishing to enjoy a second sunset experience. |
